Group: STEEMI - Students Ecological and Environmental Modelling Initiative

Overview

There are thousands of ecological and environmental simulation models, which in principle could be used by other researchers and interested members of the public to explore possible futures.  However, most of these models are, for various reasons, difficult to get hold of and use.

STEEMI - the Students' Ecological and Environmental Modelling Initiative - aims to harness the considerable enthusiasm, intellectual ability and time of students to convert these models into a standard, XML-based format, and published in a web database.   Web-based tools will be provided for displaying, analysing and simulating the behaviour of these models.

In the short term, the models will be re-implemented in Simile, a visual modelling environment based on System Dynamics (continuous-system) modelling notation.   In the near future, models will be implemented in a web-based modelling environment which is currently (Feb 2012) under development.

MyExperiment will be used in the first instance as a holding area for the converted models.
